In 1991 the administrative division of Moscow was conducted. Administrative districts and areas having names and borders are territorial units of the city.

At the moment, Moscow consists of 10 administrative districts and 125 areas.

Moscow is not only independent subject of Federation, but also an independent subject of land property relations. Aiming at assignment of territory within which land property relations are regulated, on the basis of organisation of the use of land The Moscow City Land Resources Department conducts works on establishment of city border of Moscow and borders of territories administratively subordinated to the city.
